To cap its 80th year celebration, the Silliman University College of Law presented this school year’s candidates for graduation during its very first Hooding and Awards Ceremony held last March 19 at the Cyber Lecture Hall of the Instructional Media and Technology Center.

Batch 2016 is sixteen strong. They are: Jose Realito Alalong Acas II, Reynil Cata-al Arcide, Rowtir John de Leon Banquerigo, Arman Camero Catacutan, Micah Stefan Bastasa Dagaerag, Gretel Kelly Makasiar delos Santos-Dy, Francis Ray Arbon Filipinas, Gilbert Augustin Jugar Ganir, Carolyn Clemente Jaugan, Alanna Gayle Ashley Bustaliño Khio, Andrew Stephen David Liu, Rea Jane Baliola Malcampo, Abel Cempron Montejo, Marjorie Doronila Porcina, Nelrose Borling Uy, and Marie Chielo Hayo Ybio.

Also present was Dr. Rolando V. del Carmen, an alumnus of the college who is now a distinguished professor of criminal justice in Sam Houston State University in the United States. Dr. del Carmen, together with his wife, are faithful scholarship benefactors of the college and the university. One of his most successful scholars was to give the inspirational message for the graduating class that day. She is the 2015 Outstanding SULAW Awardee, Justice Pamela Ann Abella-Maxino of the Court of Appeals.

Justice Maxino’s talk centered on how grateful she is for “the faith and truth” that she obtained from Silliman unique brand of Christian legal education. These served as her “guiding star” in her practice of law.

The hooding ceremony was immediately followed by the presentation of awards.

To recognize excellence in academics, legal writing and debating, the Marcelino C. Maxino Medals were awarded to: Gretel Kelly delos Santos-Dy, Class Valedictorian of Class 2016; Micah Stefan Dagaerag, Excellence in Legal Writing for being Editor-in-Chief of the Silliman Law Journal (2013-2014); Abel Montejo, Excellence in Legal Writing for being Editor-in-Chief of the Silliman Law Journal (2014-2015); Jose Jello Cubelo, Excellence in Legal Writing for being Editor-in-Chief of the Silliman Law Journal (2015-2016); Nubbin Paul Lagumbay, Excellence in Debating for winning Best Debater in the Grand Law Debate (2015-2016); and Wiem Marie Bonganciso, Excellence in Debating for winning Best Rebuttal Speaker in the Grand Law Debate (2015-2016).

In addition, the Professor Joseph David Padilla Medal for Best Thesis on Law was bestowed upon Gilbert Augustin Ganir.
